Now this looks really, really nice. I want but unfortunately I have money. Saracen have played a blinder here. This would look good as a proper bike, let alone 650b.

Retro biking is always fun. The Sunn Tox from 1998

Retro biking via online snap purchases - my Sunn Tox. We all surf online these days. Bit bored, fire up the mobile. I generally look at the local classifieds for interesting bikes. One of my hobbies being fixing up an older bike. Why? Well firstly I just like bikes. I don't discriminate when I buy; my oldest being from 1950. That was an old Raleigh tourer bought for £20. Fixed it up, spent a month polishing it just because I liked the colour. Sold it on as really it was two sizes too big for me. Did not make a profit as I advertised it at the price I paid plus the cost of all the parts fitted. The buyer was more than happy; it shone. Secondly the bikes chosen tend to reflect my view of a particular era or incident in my life. Hence predominantly the bikes are from the 1990's when I really started mountain biking, although I do also look at the earlier bikes. I learnt to ride on a 1930's tourer. You know that new Summer Lightning trail over on Leith Hill? First big victim today.....

Summer Lightning on Leith Hill with added blood. It doesn't happen very often, but I get invited out on rides with the teachers from a Reigate school now and then. My neighbour teaches there. I think I get invited only to help fix a mechanical or map read if there's a potential for them to get lost. Fairly confident I don't get invited for my sarcastic personality. Today I was supposed to be out with PP on his new Orange 5 , but it was in Coventry for some reason. Option 2 was a solo spin to Box Hill. Hmm, not mad keen. Then I got a text from TN; fancy Leith Hill? Meet at the top? Well no; my inner snob hates Leith Hill at the weekend. All middle managers, and walkers who stray all of 100m from the car parks. Ancient Orange 5, North Downs forts; a week in Surrey.

My Orange 5. I've had this bike since early 2013, a black special edition. Bought as I'd purchased a dropper post in the CRC Black Friday sale and needed a bike to fit it to. Really! It has never been my go-to bike, and I'm not sure why. Certainly when bought I could not see why it ever got five star reviews. By heck it was heavy. For example, the dropper wasn't that much heavier then the existing seat post. The wheels were ridiculous. I'm still shaving weight as it has 1x gearing and tubeless tyres courtesy of Decathlon. It is a bit better now, a little more fun. Modified Orange Five This year I've not used it much as I have a new hard tail, one of the 650b+ variety. Decided to play with the 5 this week. Oh dear. I've obviously got used to new geometry as this Five was horrid. Just an odd riding position, as if the bottom bracket was miles in front. After 20 miles my hip joints hurt. Hated it.
