Retro biking is always fun. The Sunn Tox from 1998

Retro biking via online snap purchases - my Sunn Tox. We all surf online these days. Bit bored, fire up the mobile. I generally look at the local classifieds for interesting bikes. One of my hobbies being fixing up an older bike. Why? Well firstly I just like bikes. I don't discriminate when I buy; my oldest being from 1950. That was an old Raleigh tourer bought for £20. Fixed it up, spent a month polishing it just because I liked the colour. Sold it on as really it was two sizes too big for me. Did not make a profit as I advertised it at the price I paid plus the cost of all the parts fitted. The buyer was more than happy; it shone. Secondly the bikes chosen tend to reflect my view of a particular era or incident in my life. Summer Lightning on Leith Hill with added blood. It doesn't happen very often, but I get invited out on rides with the teachers from a Reigate school now and then. My neighbour teaches there. I think I get invited only to help fix a mechanical or map read if there's a potential for them to get lost. Fairly confident I don't get invited for my sarcastic personality. Today I was supposed to be out with PP on his new Orange 5 , but it was in Coventry for some reason. Option 2 was a solo spin to Box Hill. Hmm, not mad keen. Then I got a text from TN; fancy Leith Hill? Meet at the top? Well no; my inner snob hates Leith Hill at the weekend. All middle managers, and walkers who stray all of 100m from the car parks. 2019 Whyte 901 review

Buy a bike! I've been after a new bike for ages. All of my bikes are 26" so perhaps it is time to move on. My criteria were simple; 65 degree head angle, 11 speed Shimano, 2.6" max tyre width, and definitely not a Whyte! Everybody rides a Whyte. Oh and no way from Finch & Sons. Brexit messed it all up. Since around Christmas nobody has had anything interesting in; the new Saracen Mantra is not available full stop. None of my local bike shops had anything in. A week ago it was sunny, and we decided to have a walk into Reigate for coffee. Passed Finch, popped in. New Whyte 901 in medium hanging up. £1,450 with pedals - which matched exactly the money I'd saved up. Sat on it. Bought it. Finch then said that's the last medium they can get until May.
