The community food | edible bus stop in Brixton.

I love this. Some local person spotted a bit of ground next to a bus stop in Landor Road that was vacant, so started to plant food there. Over time it evolved and has developed into this rather neat community affair.

The idea being that if you are in need of food, then help yourself - better off people plant various vegetables, or make donations. Every so often they have an harvest day; tea, cakes and picking. It all looks very productive. Isn't that brilliant? Wish I had a quarter of the community spirit and enterprise of the person that started this off. You'd think in Brixton people would trash it, and I guess sometimes they do, but I've never seen the site anything other than perfect. If only more communities could do this.
